If you think the regular HD video aspect ratio of 16:9 is pretty darn cool, then maybe get ready to be amazed!
Panasonic has developed an ultra-wide 64:9 video system that’s four times better than 16:9
The new Ultra-Wide Camera System has a 160-degree horizontal field of view which can capture an entire sports field in one 720p image, and all the players are clearly visible.
What Is Its Purpose?
The new Ultra-Wide camera system was designed primarily for sports coaching analysis, such as football and soccer games.
The 5120 x 720 resolution system operates on visual cues so players don’t need to wear tags or tracking devices for it to work.
How Does It Work?
Four 720p high definition cameras are linked together in real time, similar to the way the the cameras used in NHK’s bullet time video system operate.
Each camera’s shot picks up at the edge where its neighbors’ shots leaves off, and software is used to seamlessly stitch the four cameras’ shots together in real time, side-by-side, to form one really wide picture.
